It all begins when Jean and Ernestine Gonthier buy an elegant Charentais house and the surrounding land at Chez Richon.

With his wife Francine, Michel Forgeron gradually transforms the estate, planting vines on every available inch of land. The buildings become an ageing cellar and a distillery.

In 1977, the "Michel Forgeron" brand is born, symbolising the couple's commitment to the exceptional quality of the cognac they produce. The following years bring steady growth of the vineyard, modern facilities and a growing reputation.

Like all Charente estates, our vines are part of a long and sometimes dramatic history: discover how the vineyard was rebuilt after phylloxera.
